Waste Acceptance Overview

Hopkins Recycling Ltd is currently contracted to manage all 26 of Hampshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). These sites are for the disposal of waste from household sources only. Trade waste will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Should you wish to deliver your household waste to any HWRC Site using a Van, Trailer (between 6ft and 10ft) or other commercial type vehicle you will need to apply for a permit from Hampshire County Council. For more details please click on the link below. Trailers over 10ft in length and Horseboxes will not be permitted to enter HWRC Sites.

Materials Generally Accepted for Recycling

The sites accept a wide variety of different types of waste as illustrated below.

Restricted Materials

Asbestos

Cement Bonded Asbestos can be accepted at 3 Hopkins managed HWRCs (see below). Quantities of Asbestos must not exceed 15 sheets of no greater size than 120cm x 60cm (amount roughly equivalent to a standard garage roof) and must be securely wrapped in plastic sheeting. Small or broken pieces must be double bagged and sealed with tape. Deliveries of CBA must be pre-booked with site-staff by telephone.

Hazardous Household Waste

Chemicals used in the home or garden (such as pesticides, lawn treatments, antifreeze, white spirit & wood preservatives) may be accepted at HWRCs (see below). Chemicals must be delivered to site in appropriate labelled containers.

Accepted at Alton, Andover, Basingstoke, Bordon, Marchwood, Netley , Segensworth & Winchester

Soil & Rubble

No more than the equivalent of a medium sized car boot full of waste, no more than an average of once per month, per household. Soil & Rubble must be brought to the site bagged or boxed and emptied directly into the appropriate bin.

Munitions & Explosives

None of the sites are licensed to accept munitions or explosives ie shotgun cartridges, bullets, flares, hand grenades etc.
